NYX Eye Shadows - Flamingo and Tryst

I'm a bit late on the bandwagon here. I didn't have very good access to NYX until recently when an Ulta opened in a town about an hour from me. Hooray for living in the middle of nowhere. Since then, I've picked up a few random NYX items to try out, and I have to say that I've been loving them.

In this particular post, I'm going to talk about two eye shadows, one from their regular line and one from their new Nude Matte line. Both shadows retail for about $5.

From left to right: Flamingo and Tryst
When I originally bought Flamingo, I thought it was a flesh-toned shade with a pretty sheen. It took me a couple of uses to realize that it is actually a light pink shade with a lot of gold shimmer. Either way, I love it. It's a great lid color that adds a gorgeous sheen to the eye. It has a soft, easy-to-blend texture and nice pigmentation.

I've been a bit obsessed with matte eye shadows lately, so I was excited to give a NYX one a try. I ended up getting the color Tryst, which is about the same depth as Urban Decay's Buck, but it is cooler in tone. It isn't quite as soft in texture as Flamingo, but it is still nicely pigmented and blends out well.

Swatches were done without primer
The two shades together make a good everyday eye look. I just have to add my standard cream highlight and a brown liner, and I'm set for the day.

Overall, I'm thrilled with the first two single eye shadows I purchased from NYX. They are really good quality for the price and are an even better deal when you can get them on sale.

Do you own any NYX eye shadows? Are there any must-have colors I should check out on my next shopping trip to Ulta?

  1. Oh my gosh, Flamingo is GORGEOUS. I'm not even that huge on shimmer shadows anymore, I tend to lean towards mattes like you, but that shade is just... soo pretty. I have Sahara from NYX and it has a similar finish and it sounds like the texture/consistency is the same too. Their new matte shadows caught my eye too, I was curious about the quality.

    1. Definitely give the NYX mattes a swatch the next time you are in an Ulta (hopefully you live near one). I would probably get more if my Ulta had a better selection. I'm hesitant to buy more without seeing them in person because they have a lot of mid-tone brown shades that are really similar.

I'll have to check out Sahara the next time I get the chance.
