Essence Blushes - Review and Swatches

If you've read even just a couple of my posts, you've probably read a mention about me being pale. It feels really redundant to keep mentioning it, but it does make a big difference when it comes to how I view products.

I love bright colors for my cheeks and lips. I actually think they work well with my fair skin (think Snow White), but I have to be really careful when I apply bright blushes because the Snow White look can quickly become the Extra from Moulin Rouge look. Not good. That's why I decided during one of my many fall shopping trips (Shame on me!) to pick up a couple of blushes that weren't really bright and intense.

I ended up grabbing two blushes from the brand Essence, which is a super-cheap brand sold at Ulta. These blushes are currently selling on Ulta.com for $2.99 each.

These blushes do have a soft, silky feel to them, and as you can see from the swatches, they have pretty good pigmentation for inexpensive, light colors. Babydoll is a slightly rose-toned, muted pink, and Adorable is a true, light baby pink. They both have a slight sheen in the pan, but they appear matte when applied.

I love that I can use a normal blush brush to apply these since I have to use a stippling brush for nearly every blush in my collection. The trade-off with these being easy for me to apply is that they don't last as long as some of my other blushes. By the end of a workday, these are pretty much gone. While that's slightly disappointing, there are days when I'm okay with trading-off a little bit of wear time to have something that is hard for me to over-apply, especially for the inexpensive price tag.

Have you tried the Essence blushes? What did you think about them? Are there any other Essence products I should check out? Do you know of any light colored blushes that are easy to apply on fair skin that last all day?

  1. Both of these blushes look so pretty - and as a fellow fair-skinned girl, I totally know what you mean about having a blush that's light enough that you don't have to think too much about putting on. I've never tried Essence blushes, but I love their eyebrow pencil and lip glosses. I've always wanted to try more of their products, so it seems like the blushes are a good place to start. Thanks!

    1. Glad I could help you out. I'm wanting to try their concealer trio, but it hasn't been in stock the last couple of times I've been in an Ulta. I'll have to add their glosses to my list too. I never get through an entire gloss, so having ones that are super cheap is always good.

  2. I really like the babydoll color but it's a shame it doesn't last long. I continously find myself frustrated over makeup that doesn't match my skintone and doesn't last. Those are surely my two biggest, and most common problems when trying makeup. I'm very fair skinned as well so it's hard to find things that work.

I have an ELF Studio blush that is quite light, I'm not sure as to it's lasting power but it's quite pretty. I also have mineral blush from zoe&zac which is a brand from Payless I believe and it lasts all day but it's quite shimmery so it may not look the best if you have issues with oily skin throughout the day as I do.

Followed, btw. Found your blog via a blog party. (:

    1. Glad to have another pale person around! That's one thing I love about blogging; I get to know people with a similar skintone and depth. It makes it easier to shop that way.

I need to do more testing with a lighter NYX blush that I have. I hope that one lasts longer. I love my bright blushes, but I'd love to have one that is easy to apply and lasts all day.
